Miami is one of those rare cities where a production can create dramatically different visual worlds without leaving South Florida.
You can shoot against Art Deco architecture in the morning, a tropical garden in the afternoon and a waterfront mansion at sunset.
Add yachts, exotic cars, colorful neighborhoods, private estates — or even professionally managed exotic animals — and Miami becomes an enormous creative playground for music videos, commercials, fashion shoots, social content and photography.
But where should you actually shoot?
Here are some of our favorite Miami production environments, including famous locations, lesser-known options and ideas for incorporating camels, zebras, lemurs, monkeys, exotic birds, flamingos, reptiles and other extraordinary animals into the right production.
1. Wynwood — Murals, Color & Urban Energy
If your concept needs color, street art and an unmistakably Miami urban aesthetic, start with Wynwood.
The neighborhood can work beautifully for:
Hip-hop and Latin music videos
Streetwear campaigns
Fashion shoots
Dance videos
Automotive content
Social campaigns
Instead of limiting the shoot to the most recognizable murals, scout the surrounding streets for industrial textures, loading areas, colorful architecture and interesting perspectives.
Could Exotic Animals Work Here?
Potentially — but this is where location control becomes important.
A colorful exotic bird, reptile or another manageable animal could create an incredible contrast against an urban environment. Larger or more sensitive animals require considerably more control over crowds, traffic, staging and transportation.
For an ambitious animal concept, a private Wynwood warehouse, studio or controlled property may make considerably more sense than trying to execute it on a public sidewalk.

2. Miami Design District — High Fashion & Modern Luxury
For a polished fashion or luxury aesthetic, the Miami Design District provides contemporary architecture, public art, dramatic facades and high-end visual surroundings.
This is a natural fit for:
Fashion campaigns
Luxury brands
Editorial photography
Music videos
Automotive shoots
Branded content
The City of Miami itself identifies the Design District among its potential filming environments.
Animal Concept
Imagine highly styled talent beside an exotic bird, dramatic reptile or another visually distinctive animal against contemporary architecture.
For more elaborate animal scenes, consider using the Design District aesthetic for exterior establishing shots and pairing it with a nearby controlled private location for the actual animal sequence.
3. Little Havana & Calle Ocho — Miami With Character
Not every Miami production needs to look like a mansion and a Lamborghini.
Little Havana and Calle Ocho provide color, culture, historic storefronts, street life and unmistakable Miami character.
Domino Park and the surrounding Calle Ocho environment can be particularly compelling for productions seeking something authentic rather than generic tropical luxury.
Think:
Latin music
Reggaeton
Documentary-style visuals
Fashion
Lifestyle campaigns
Story-driven music videos
For animal-heavy scenes, however, a controlled private property elsewhere will usually provide more flexibility than a busy public street.
4. Historic Virginia Key Beach Park — One of Miami’s Production Gems
If you’re looking for something that feels more natural and less like South Beach, Historic Virginia Key Beach Park deserves attention.
The property specifically accommodates commercial film and photography and offers several different settings, including beachfront, open lawns, pavilions and event areas.
That gives a director the ability to capture multiple looks without completely relocating the production.
It’s especially interesting for:
Tropical music videos
Beach scenes
Fashion
Editorial shoots
Lifestyle campaigns
Natural outdoor imagery
If you’re considering an animal component, discuss it with both the location and animal professionals before building the scene around it.

5. Miami Marine Stadium & Virginia Key — Raw, Cinematic Miami
For something completely different from polished Miami luxury, explore the Virginia Key / Miami Marine Stadium area.
The Marine Stadium is one of Miami’s most distinctive architectural landmarks and the City of Miami includes it among potential production locations.
The surrounding Virginia Key environment can give directors combinations of concrete architecture, water, vegetation and skyline views.
It’s a very different Miami.
And that’s precisely why it can work.
Any production access to the stadium itself or controlled surrounding areas should be coordinated through the appropriate authorities rather than assumed.
6. Miami River — Boats, Bridges, Skyline & Industrial Texture
The Miami River is an underrated production environment.
Depending on the specific location, you can find:
Yachts and working boats
Bridges
Downtown skyline views
Industrial textures
Restaurants and docks
Modern towers
Older Miami architecture
The City of Miami specifically promotes several Miami River views among its potential film locations.
For music videos, this is particularly interesting because the river can deliver both luxury Miami and gritty Miami within the same general environment.
Animal scenes would generally be better planned at a controlled riverside property rather than a busy public dock or walkway.
7. South Beach — The Miami Everyone Recognizes
Sometimes you want a hidden gem.
Sometimes you want viewers to know they’re in Miami within three seconds.
That’s South Beach.
Art Deco architecture, Ocean Drive, palms, sand, colorful lifeguard stands and blue water create one of the world’s most recognizable production environments.
It’s ideal for:
Music videos
Swimwear
Fashion
Lifestyle campaigns
Fitness content
Commercials
Automotive imagery
Miami Beach has an established Film & Print Office and permitting system for commercial productions.
Can You Bring a Zebra or Camel Onto South Beach?
Don’t assume so.
Beaches and public spaces have their own rules, and adding an exotic animal introduces additional considerations involving location permission, transportation, public interaction, environmental conditions and animal welfare.
If the creative requires a camel walking through sand or another dramatic animal/beach image, contact us before locking the location.
Sometimes the better production solution is recreating the desired aesthetic on a controlled private property.
8. Vizcaya Museum & Gardens — European Miami
For a completely different visual world, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens offers historic architecture, waterfront terraces and elaborate gardens that can make Miami look more like Europe.
It’s extraordinary for:
Fashion
Editorial photography
Luxury campaigns
Period-inspired concepts
Romantic visuals
High-end commercial work
Commercial filming requires advance approval and availability is limited.
Important: Don’t Plan Your Exotic Animal Scene Here
Vizcaya’s published commercial filming rules prohibit animals other than qualifying service dogs.
That’s an important production lesson:
Not every incredible Miami location is an appropriate exotic-animal location.
Shoot your Vizcaya scenes there, then move the animal sequence to another controlled property where the concept is actually permitted.
9. Deering Estate — Historic, Tropical & Waterfront
The Deering Estate is another beautiful option for productions seeking Old Florida atmosphere, tropical landscapes and waterfront scenery.
The property has an established permitting structure for professional film and photography.
It can work beautifully for:
Fashion
Romantic sequences
Period-inspired imagery
Editorial photography
Nature-driven productions
Luxury content
Because Deering Estate protects sensitive natural environments and wildlife, don’t assume outside animals or elaborate production elements will be permitted.
Get approval for the actual concept first.
10. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden — Full Tropical Immersion
If your treatment calls for dense tropical vegetation rather than another Miami beach, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is worth exploring.
The property offers a genuinely lush botanical environment that would be difficult to recreate convincingly on a soundstage.
Commercial filming and photography require advance coordination and are evaluated case by case.
Again, don’t assume an outside exotic animal can simply be brought onto the property.
But visually, Fairchild demonstrates something important about shooting in Miami:
South Florida can give you a real tropical environment instead of asking your art department to build one.
11. Private Miami Mansions — Best Option for Exotic Animal Shoots
If your production specifically calls for an exotic animal, this may be the most important category on the list.
A private production-friendly mansion or estate can offer something public locations can’t:
Control.
Depending on the property, you may have private parking, gates, lawns, pool decks, large driveways, tropical landscaping, waterfront views and space for animal transportation and staging.
That can make an enormous difference when working with larger animals.
Imagine:
A zebra beside a modern white mansion.
A camel arriving through a palm-lined driveway.
A lemur encounter beside a tropical pool.
Exotic birds incorporated into a fashion sequence.
A dramatic animal reveal during a music video.
The property and animal need to be evaluated together, but for ambitious concepts, private estates are often where the most creative possibilities begin.

12. Southwest Ranches, Davie & Homestead — Miami’s Secret Weapon
Here’s the location strategy many out-of-town production teams overlook.
Not every Miami-area shoot needs to happen in Miami Beach.
Travel west or south and the environment changes dramatically.
Areas around Southwest Ranches, Davie, Redland and Homestead can offer larger properties, agricultural environments, tropical acreage, equestrian settings and considerably more physical space.
For productions involving camels, zebras, specialty hoofstock or other larger animals, these kinds of properties may provide much more practical access and staging than a downtown location.
And with the right camera angles, the audience doesn’t need to know you’re 30 or 40 miles from South Beach.
You can create an entirely different world.
This is one of South Florida’s biggest production advantages.
13. Private Tropical Properties — Build Your Own Jungle
Some of Miami’s most interesting locations aren’t famous landmarks at all.
They’re private properties filled with:
Mature palms.
Dense tropical landscaping.
Coral rock.
Water features.
Pools.
Large lawns.
Unusual architecture.
For an exotic-animal production, these can sometimes outperform a recognizable public location because the production gains privacy and control.
A lemur, monkey, reptile or exotic bird against genuine tropical landscaping can create a scene that feels considerably more immersive than placing the same animal inside a studio.
For the right project, we can think about the animal and location together, rather than treating them as separate production decisions.
14. Yachts, Marinas & Waterfront Properties
Few visuals say Miami faster than water.
Yachts and waterfront properties are particularly effective for hip-hop, Latin music, luxury lifestyle, fashion and commercial productions.
But there’s an important distinction:
A yacht scene and an exotic-animal scene don’t necessarily need to happen simultaneously.
Animal suitability, dock access, vessel movement, space and safety can make putting an animal directly aboard a boat unrealistic.
A smarter production might capture the yacht sequence first and then shoot the exotic animal at the adjacent waterfront estate.
The edit creates one seamless Miami world.
Want Flamingos in Your Miami Video?
Few animals fit the Miami aesthetic better than flamingos.
But a production shouldn’t assume that because flamingos are visually associated with South Florida, they’re readily available as interactive production animals.
Flamingos, big cats and other highly specialized species require particularly careful sourcing and planning, and availability can be extremely limited.
Tell us what you’re trying to achieve visually.
If the exact animal isn’t realistic, we may be able to explore another animal or creative approach that delivers the same color, scale or visual impact.
What About Tigers or Big Cats?
We receive ambitious requests.
Sometimes very ambitious ones.
Big cats are highly regulated and dramatically different from sourcing a camel, zebra, bird or smaller interactive animal.
We don’t recommend building a production treatment around a tiger or another highly regulated species until an appropriate animal resource, legal framework, transportation plan, location and proposed activity have actually been evaluated.
Send us the concept first.
We’ll tell you what deserves further exploration.
Don’t Just Tell Us the Animal — Show Us the Shot
If you’re planning a Miami music video, commercial, fashion campaign, television production or photo shoot, the most useful thing you can send us is the creative.
Storyboard.
Treatment.
Reference image.
Shot list.
Even a screenshot with:
“We want something like THIS.”
Tell us what the animal needs to do, who will be near it, how long the scene lasts and what the final image needs to communicate.
We can then explore the animal experience around the actual creative objective.

A Quick Word About Miami Film Permits
Miami is production-friendly, but there isn’t one blanket permit covering every conceivable location.
The City of Miami, Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County and individual municipalities and properties can have different requirements.
Commercial productions on public streets, parks, beaches and other public properties commonly require film permits. Certain municipalities can also have requirements affecting residential or private-property productions.
Productions involving exotic animals add another layer because the animal, responsible exhibitor, activity and origin can trigger additional wildlife, animal-health and federal requirements.
So before locking a complicated animal scene:
Choose the concept.
Scout the location.
Check the production requirements.
Confirm the animal.
Then build the shot.
That’s much easier than discovering three days before production that the location won’t allow the animal in your treatment.
Why Miami Is So Good for Video Production
Miami’s biggest advantage isn’t one particular location.
It’s how many completely different looks exist within the same region.
You can create:
Art Deco Miami.
Luxury Miami.
Tropical Miami.
Urban Miami.
Latin Miami.
Old Florida.
Waterfront Miami.
Ranch and acreage environments.
European-inspired architecture.
Beaches and islands.
Modern architectural environments.
And for the right production:
Miami with exotic animals.
With more than 20 years of professional special-event production experience in South Florida, Exotic Animals Miami understands that getting an animal onto a set is only part of the job.
The location, transportation, access, timing, environment, handlers, cast interaction and production schedule all have to work together.
